I used to own this one. It was a real Hemi Super Stocker...not a street machine. I had a built 440 in it in this photo. F788FF83-95CF-40CC-90F2-FDE6F88C2528.jpeg

Always loved that body style. Probably from admiring the Ramchargers A/FX as a youngster.

All that a year before the GTO which gets all the cred as the first muscle car.

I drove a light weight Max Wedge in '64 when I was 17. Had 33 miles on it. Had a bunch of drag slips ranging from high 10's to very low 11's. Scared the ever lovin shit out of me when I got on it. I still want one.

Love them Max wedges, one of the best engines ever built.

The Max Wedge was king of the streets and strip till they stopped making them. Then the Hemi came out and they were no longer king of the streets although the big money boys were king of the strip. The street Hemi's were not up to taking on the Chevy big blocks.

I grew up and raced in the early, mid, and late '60's. I owned 2 Hemi chargers. I owned and raced big block Chevy's and Fords. The street Hemi was a non player on the streets. Sorry if I'm not popular, but I tell the truth from experience.

Can’t argue too much with you @Mike L. on it but have to ask what year Hemi Chargers and what trans and rear ratio drive train combinations? A Hemi automatic with a 3.23 rear was not a street performer. A Hemi 4 speed with a 4.10 rear was a beast.

Both were '68's. One was bone stock 65K mi with 323 gears auto with ram manifold. It ran 13.70 as it's best pass. The other had new engine, 391 gears, auto, ram manifold. With Casler slicks it ran 12.58. I could have made them faster with a lot of money. Didn't cost much to get my big block into the 10's.

Those Tri Y headers were the last batch if I am not mistaken just as the Max engine production ended. They are different than the earlier style and are rarer than hens teeth. Very few were made. Would love to get my hands on a mill that came decked out with the last incarnation of a great engine. Of course an aluminum light weight front end car, or all metal acid dipped from the factor wouldn’t bother one bit either.

picture below shows Tom Hover standing next to an earlier model. Note the older style factory headers, compared to the Tri Y that were supposed to be superior but production got halted soon after. He was deeply embedded in both the Max and Hemi development

If I'm not incorrect, those Tri Y headers were the final batch produced right before the Max engine manufacture ceased. They are more uncommon than chickens teeth and distinct from the older form. Few were produced. I'd want to possess a mill that was outfitted with a fantastic engine in its last iteration.
