So why not do it back in 2016 or something?
Where would the car fit in 2016 price wise? V8 RT started at 34k, SRT 392 was 51k, and Hellcat was 62k.

It kind of like with the new midsize trucks, cost kept them out of the lineup until companies started jacking up prices of full size trucks and now all of a sudden there is a place for them. Like the RHO is now the starting price of what the TRX was 4 years ago. The Ranger Raptor is 4k more expensive than the F150 Raptor was in 2016!

Low 20s to mid 30s.

Doesn't have to be a V8

The SRT4 was a huge hit. Lots of fun for not a lot of money. Even back in 2002 for under 20k
Plug that into the inflation calculator and you have a sub 27k hot rod.

I don't like the Ford and GM got out of the cheap car game. Well, GM is back in it.
At a time when people were chasing higher margin products, they could have been building a sub compact thats fun to drive.
And the SRT with Mopar stage kits let people have a car they can race and wrench on.

That tuner crowd still exists today. The Dart was a nice idea, but it wasn't fully baked IMO.
VW's GTI and Honda's Civic Si are known to be great little cars that are fun to drive.
Build one that beats both of those cars and under 30k. Not hard.
Sell an upgraded turbo kit to make 400hp. Also not hard for 2016.
