Which is the better tire for the dragstrip for our Redeyes? Please don't mention ET Streets. Just the aforementioned 2.
I know the 555R2's are the follow-up to the Nitto 555R's but it looks like the NT05R's have more contact patch. Opinions?
Thank you! A. Solis

Welcome

M/T Street R's better yet M/T ET Street Radial Pro.

The Radial Pro is a tire that is track only tire though and is also only available in 15".

So the Street R's would be best for you in my opinion plus they can also be used on the street.

I have been using the NT05R's for 2 seasons and they suck for hooking up at the track, on the street they are great even in light rain as long as you don't hit any real large puddles on the road..

My friends are using either of the other 2 tires I have mentioned above and are hooking up much better and are able to go into the mid to low 9's with them with no slip unless the track is losing it's prep.

The best I have been able to get to is 9.96/1.42 60' on the NT05R's with lots of slip.

Next season it's M/T P315/60R15 ET Street Radial Pro's for me.

Never used the 555's so no help on them.

This is on the street data, at the track I run 315/50-17 MT Street R’s
I’ve been running 315 NT05R for 2 years, like 4 sets of them. I bought a set of 315 555R2’s back in may. I tested them and 315/50-17 MT Street R’s all in the same afternoon on the street within 30 minutes of one another, all 3 spanking new. With no burnout The NT05R gave me the best times in all markers over a 1/4, 60 ft, 0-60, 330, 660, 1000’, 1/4. I did a write up on the test. I ran the NT05R all summer and wore them to nothing then recently put the 555R2’s on and did a 1/4 pull in 30F weather and they gave me a 2.1 60 ft and a 11.9 1/4, I’m trying to put 935 wheel down with a low ratio M6. Both are good tires, the 555R2’s look better. Both where on 10.5” wide runs and 26 psi, a 11-11.5” rim would suit them better, on 10.5” the outer 1/2” on each side of the tire is not doing anything. I’ll be mounting a new set of 555R2’s on 11” replicas this spring and see how that helps them. I also have aftermarket rear suspension goodies and have my caster set at .3 degrees positive 0 toe which helps as well. You can’t go wrong with either except they don’t last long and don’t like the wet.

You asked not to mention the et streets and just those 2 tires. I've had the tri 5r2's and love them on my Hellcat.

Never had the NT05 but the R2 hooked very well. I have been running the 555r for years. On my '13 Mustang running 10.7-8 they were hit or miss at the track. In the summer with my Hellcat running the R2 10.9-11.0 they were hooking every time but once (slight spin but still hooked up) producing the same 60ft times. I really like them and they are a great tire for daily driving. I still would get a better track tire like the M/T which is what I normally run at the track

The 555R2 are the latest greatest and I would choose those over the NT05

My 555R2's don't hook for anything. I can burn them without even trying. Totally stock M6 car. 315 35 20's. A lot of money for a disappointing tire.

Stick is a different animal. On a prepped track riding the clutch you could get them to hook. Rev it up and dump the clutch yep they will spin. On the street yep they will spin like most any other sticky tire

I ran the 05R's for a summer season and have to say that they performed better than the factory sucky Pirelli's. That being said, I wou;ld say it depends on what your plans are to use them. The 555r's are better for the street, with OCCASIONAL trips to the track, the 05r's are better suited to the track, marginally OK in rain, and can be run to almost nothing..(ask me how I know.
Personally, I would recommend getting a set of 17's or 18's and put a set of M/Tr's or Hoosier DB2's in a 315....difference is night and day!

My experience with mine is similar. It is very temperature related. If it's hot mine hook well. if it's 75 and lower they spin on demand. Even just pulling away from traffic light and hitting the skinny peddle to quick. They remind me of the tires on my R1Super Sport bike. has to be hot.

I run 305 20s 555r2 on the street and I'm pretty happy with them. They're not Street Rs but I don't expect them to be.

The 555R2s were not available back in November, don't know if that has changed since...I put Michelin PS4s on my car instead. I have a set of rear wheels/tires for the track and when I want to street race so I can live with some compromise there as my redeye is also my daily.

Neither of OP choices are good for the drag strip for a Hellcat.

No 20" tire with no sidewall is going to work. I'm running Street Rs, how about you?

On my car I have hooked with the 20" 305 Nittos at the track. Now a modified Hellcat or Redeye probably not

Only thing that I ran when mine was stock were the Pirellis and Street Rs at the track. Now I run 555r2 on the street and still run the Street Rs at the track.
