For fogeys like me. Slingshots, altereds, A/FX, gassers ... Garlits, Landy, Sox & Martin, Ramchargers ... Slower but simpler times.

It's not just for Fogey's like you. I'll take that era over today any day. I love my HC, don't get me wrong, but it just doesn't give me the same feeling the 60's/70's car do. Big blocks, carbs, 4 speeds, headers..... Nostalgic drag racing is cool.

Top Fuel competitors used to get a whole season out of a motor. Can you imagine?

I'll take those times too, but let me keep the Cat. Don't get me wrong. Still think about my first car all the time. Had it for a very long time, but I'll take the HP with all the creature comforts. People say these Cat's are a tank/boat. LOL, drive a 1969 Firebird...

Those old-school silver fire suits take me back...

Yeah, I was just a wee-lad watching my Uncle race, but still.

They were made of asbestos. I have no idea if the fibers were adequately encapsulated.

Had guys around here doing that. And then on this one street that had no stop signs (but was supposed to) you'd have them roll the car out, station look outs at each intersection and get a short, half throttle run out of it when tuning.

Those were great days to be alive (late 60's/early 70's). At least every other driveway in my neighborhood had some sort of 60's or 70's muscle car. It was awesome to be exposed to all the different models and get a chance to see them being worked on first hand.
The local burger drive-in was two blocks away and on summer nights you'd hear street racing well into the wee hours of the morning.

I remember the old times when Pro stock cars could barely break the 10's in the 1/4 mile. Now Hellcats with air conditioning and comfort can achieve these numbers

When you stepped on the throttle with mechanical linkage and that huge 4 barrel carburetor opened up those secondaries, oh what a glorious sound and a big kick of power.

Or at the Englishtown track, now gone, and Big Daddy Don Garlits did that wheelie and back flip, in 1986, racing Darryl Gywnn! I was there.

We didn't realize they were the best of times.

Still kicking a bit. From an article written by a friend of his:
There’s more, way more. But suffice to say that among the early practitioners of drag racing, few were as die-hard and successful as Tommy Ivo. Today, at 83, Ivo is whip smart, articulate, and has unerring recall. His current hobby? Virtual Reality technology.

“Despite all the travel and the miles and miles of towing, I have no regrets,” he explained from his home in Burbank, the same home, by the way, he bought when he was 12. “I never could slow down. I always had a lot of energy, even today. I’ve always kept the ‘kid’ in me. That’s the trick, you know.”
