If you did that today you'd put a 12" deep crater in the hood...

It's interesting how the level of DGAF existed back then, but yet at the same time were very protective and prideful of their rides.

Some things mattered and some didn't apparently.

I couldn't imagine sitting on the hood of any of my cars.

Wouldn't ever even think of crawling on my car's hood even if I knew if wouldn't dent or scratch.

Think about when it was common to go to the car hangout or drive in restaurant and see people leaning up against their cars, or sitting on the hood or fender. Sheetmetal didn't seem to dent back then in a strong breeze or if you looked at it wrong.....unlike today. ...carriage return...
And for all of the tech advances and new lightweight alloys, cars don't seem to have gotten much lighter. Just think about car bumpers. I'm pretty sure the front bumper on my '64 Polara weighed 40 lbs or more just by itself. I never weighed it but when I took it off and while I was putting it back on I do know that it was heavy as hell. The back bumper wasn't much lighter. ...carriage return....
How much do new car bumpers weigh? It ain't a lot compared to those old bumpers. Look at how light fenders are now compared to back then.

I don't know about Mustangs but you were not going to dent a 60's Pontiac hood by sitting on it nor would leaning elbows on the top dent it like today's tin foil bodies.

The metal was thicker back then, but it sure did rust. At least up here it did.

lol, what about if someone hops up on the trunk to sit?

About 20 years ago now, I just about came unglued when this girl jumped up on the trunk lid to sit...
