"Water Spots" - What is the best way to remove that is not abrasive?

I did some searching on the magic Erasers.

🤣 Oh boy, Magic Erasers are like the wild card of cleaning tools—miraculous on grime, but savage on finishes. Some of the “don’t even think about it” warnings people share are downright hilarious (and a little terrifying).
Here's some good advice for you guys

Like OG says, wash with something like GTechniq decon wash, then a fallout remover, clay bar, polish with 3D Polish, and seal it up with some Adam's graphene ceramic spray. Sounds like a lot but honestly very easy. Took me an afternoon for the 170.

To prevent it recurring wash with the CR Spotless filter. My original resin lasted over 3 years and replacement bulk resin was cost effective. You dont even have to really dry the car, just blow off with a leaf blower and done.

Had similar spots on a Jeep. Clay bar, beers, and lots of patience got them removed safely.

Simple and the accepted proper way. I do not know shit about anything called “magic”. Forget-about-it.

Clay it. That WILL remove the water spots. Then you need to treat it and protect it.

After the clay use this.


Then it does not matter but at your choice then apply a wax or protection layer of your choice. Regular, ceramic, whatever but get a coat of protection on it.

Whatever you do to the water at home quit using whatever spotted it. That can be minimized by wiping the car off quickly and completely after a wash, period, no exceptions to that rule no matter what water you use.

I have tiny water spots over the entire surface of the car, paint and glass. Washing and waxing does not remove them. I thought they may be calcium and tried vinegar but it does nothing. There is Chemical Guys Water Spot Remover but reviews say it sometimes makes things worse.

My well water is acidic and I add soda ash (sodium carbonate) to neutralize the acidity. I stopped using it a while back and suddenly I had copper pipes leaking. I ended up replacing a bunch of the copper with Pex. I continue to use the soda ash.

I worried the spots might be acid etching the surface but if I scrape the glass with a razor it all comes off meaning it is build-up on the surface and not etching.

So there are 2.5 problems:

1a: How to remove the spots without abrasives? Maybe clay? 1b: Does it hurt to just ignore them?

2: How do I prevent them in the future? Articles say wax, but I have been doing that. And they say ceramic doesn’t help stop it. And I'm not about to spend big $ to filter water for car washes! Remember, I'm cheap!

I would appreciate suggestions from those who have experienced this.

My car has never been in the rain EVER...rain water here is acidic,,,and when washing..(a rare occurrence as they get spray detailed after use and never get dirty)..blow dry immediately...then towel dry..and any wash or detail is done indoors..I don't get water spots..

Just drove the Queen for the second time ever in the rain this morning! The rain is good shit here, but looking forward to a big detailing session later this week. I had to get it to be worked on the next couple of days. Just fixing my own fuckup, all will be fine.

One a few advantages of garage queen vehicles that never see rain...and garaged when not in use to avoid exposure to UV exposure from the sun...the finish on all my cars..is impeccable..(and will stay that way...

Yes because I can get the QJ under the mother again when I get it back without driving up on ramps. At best I have until Nov 7th to drive it this year at best. I need to give it lots of attention this off season as usual. I probably went light for a couple of years. With retirement, it is going to shine for next season. I get to help with the alignment on Thursday, so some wipe down can go on especially on the rear members then.

Yes because I can get the QJ under the mother again when I get it back without driving up on ramps. At best I have until Nov 7th to drive it this year at best. I need to give it lots of attention this off season as usual. I probably went light for a couple of years. With retirement, it is going to shine for next season. I get to help with the alignment on Thursday, so some wipe down can go on especially on the rear members then.

That's what I love about having (2) lifts...during the winter..I can rotate them...and do a thorough underside detail..on those gloomy weekends when there's nothing else to do..(even polish the exhaust with strips of emery cloth)...my wife thinks I'm crazy..
