I was looking at the 2021 Durango the other day, and noticed that it has the new Uconnect 5 head unit. I looked at the latest Stellantis release for the 2022 Challenger, but it doesn't mention Uconnect 5. Also... Will the new Uconnect 5 head unit be pre-2022 Challenger/Charger compatible? I was told that the processors used in the Uconnect 4 head unit are no longer available, and that no new replacements will be available. Any UC4 head units that fail will be restricted to repairs only. If anyone has more info on this, the floor is open...

States here...
Each automotive brand offers its own display design. Interestingly, Jeep, Ram, or Dodge won’t feature the same design. Of course, the Uconnect 5 Infotainment System is available in all of them from now on. However, menus won’t be quite the same which is another interesting outcome. What is identical is the fact that the system will get an upgraded 50K MIP chip and 6GB of RAM.

Furthermore, a 64GB flash memory is in the use. Thanks to these improvements, the technology will be allowed to work five-times-faster than the Uconnect 4. Lastly, the Alexa feature is finally available. The next-gen Uconnect5 will be firstly introduced in the upcoming 2021 Chrysler Pacifica minivan.

I want to purchase a new Scat Pack, but I'm waiting on information from my local Dodge dealership regarding UC5 status. One person told me that the 2022 model will receive UC5, another says no. I'm wondering if Dodge intends on updating the Challenger/Charger UC4 with UC5 software only, not the head unit.

This is goofy. I'm ready to purchase a new 1320, but if the UC5 head won't retrofit pre-2022 models, I'm out. If the 2022 comes with the UC5, I'll order a 1320. It looks like UC5 includes a 8.5" format, so I'm hoping for the best. I called Infotainment yesterday... They have no information either. Why would the Ram and Durango get the new UC5, but not the Challenger?

The Ram and Durango get it because they sell in huge numbers and need to be competitive in their segments. The Charger/Challenger really doesn't have direct competition anymore and their days are numbered on the current platform. So unfortunately they probably won't bother to invest more $ into a 'dead' platform. Especially when it's already hard to get parts for the cash cow trucks and SUVs. But you're right, even if they don't put UC5 in them maybe the 8.4" UC5 from the Ram could be adapted eventually.

I dont see it happening. They’d have to redesign the dash and that alone seems far fetched this late in the platform.

Nah. The '22 Ram has an 8.4" UC5 option, so it would fit the hole in the dash. Everything else is a big question mark though.

I ask, because a Dodge salesman told me that the 2022 is will see the UC5. I'm thinking that maybe he misunderstood, and that the UC4 head unit will get a UC5 software update? This is assuming the 4C is compatible, of course. I'm itching for a 392... I want to get the most up to date system, of course. More than that, I want to know if the 8.4" UC5 will retrofit into UC4 equipped models. i.e. Backwards compatible.

UC5 is hardware and totally different software (UC5 is Android based, UC4 was QNX) so they could make the UC4 graphics match UC5, but you wouldn't see any of the actual benefits of UC5

Understood. Since the processors used in the UC4 are no longer produced, the UC5 must be backward compatible. Question is, at what cost? Improved backup camera resolution and faster response to Performance Pages would be nice.

Who says they're not being produced though? The 4th gen Rams (still being produced), some Durango trims, all 4th gen Grand Cherokees (still being produced), not to mention the 300/Charger/Challenger still use UC4.

I was told this by one Dodge service tech and two Dodge sales reps. They say that no new UC4 units are available for purchase, only refurbed units. When you think about it, why would they be? Dodge isn't going to install antiquated equipment if they don't have to. Infotainment headquarters is less than 10 miles from my home. I will call them on Monday.

It's not as easy as slapping a different touchscreen in there, even if they are the same size. Anything electronic is hard to get right now, but there are plenty of of new vehicles still being produced with UC4 that it won't just suddenly be discontinued. That's not how supply chains work. Maybe there's nothing new available for a retail customer to buy over the counter (like if you wanted to replace a fried UC4 unit in your car), but they're still being made for the OEM guaranteed.

FF to time marker 3:37 to see the UC5 head unit. It doesn't appear to be any faster than the UC4.

That's UC4, not UC5. My wife's '20 Cherokee is exactly the same (laggy), yet my '17 Daytona wasn't at all. The only GC that currently has UC5 is the new body style L.

Here's a hands-on with the 8.4" size UC5 in a '22 HD Ram:

So it looks good but nothing I’d be making my vehicle purchase decision on by any means. A few extra cool things but not miles different. My 2020 UC4 isnt laggy.

Mine isn't laggy, except for Performance Pages. Before connecting wireless, the response was immediate. I get good vibes... If the 8.4" UC5 works with RAM, it will be backwards compatible with earlier models. Now it comes down to Scat Pack vs 1320.

My gal wants the 2022 GC. She wants to trade our 2014 FX4 in on one, but I'm not sold on doing that. I'm not a fan of piano black paneling on anything. Looks tacky as hell, and is a nightmare to maintain. Same goes for the gloss UC5 screen.
