So strange that my dashboard below the screen has a "mute" and "screen off" button, but the volume knob is also a power button? This button turns the entire screen and all functions off. Has to be a glitch.

On the 2017, the power button is no longer for mute, there is a separate mute button on the opposite side of the "screen off" button. The volume knob is actually a power button now for some reason.

FCA changed the way the power off and mute buttons worked around 2017, then again in 2018, and again for 2019. The reason... FCA made the engineers do stuff to justify their pay checks and confuse car owners. Wait until you see what they've done for the 2020 radios.
In the 2015/16’s people were complaining that there was no way to shut the radio off so they implemented that in 2017. It progressed from there I guess.
