In Search of 200

On one of my runs, and only at 160ish, I had a gust hit me from the side, I thought it was all over.

Other than that one time, 170-180 has been rock solid, one hand on the wheel, and very stable/smooth.

Yeah, 200 is more, clearly, but when you're flying an upside-down wing at aerodynamic speeds, stuff happens...

I would guess that by "speed limiter" someone really means "rev limiter". What gear was it in at the end?

No where near. Maybe an injector couldn't keep up, weak fuel pump, who knows. I imaging the fuel demand was quite high. Last year it was puking at 120 for 2-3 sec, dealer replaced 2 injectors. Maybe it needed more.

I really can't complain.

Wow, I thought it was only the 2 scoop hood! Isn't there a vent in the hood to relieve that pressure?

Before I left home, I removed the brake fluid access cover and removed the weatherstrip from the cowl thinking it might relieve pressure. But after seeing Bull's pic, I'm guessing it did nothing.

On the original GC hood, it helps to remove the heat extractor vent inserts.

I had not done so in that picture, abd I don't have a comparable picture with them out, so I don't know how effective it is or not.

Another HC owner ran into the same speed limitation I had, it was a couple years back, that led to him doing research. He is tuning his current RE and changed the value.

What kind of c8? Demon 170s were like 200 when they came out

100+ for a 170...200 for a ZO6...85+ for a RE...NONE of it is stupid...NONE of if....it's just the reality of what your going to have to pay for any of them....if you cant afford the price of admission for ANY of them...or cant justify the expenditure...then to even consider any of them...that's the only STUPID thing....period

To spend that kind of money to drive 35 around town and 70 on the highway, and you can't even take the wife and dog at the same time, it sure sounds dumb. In my area I see 992's, Ferrari's, Maserati's, Bentley's, you name it, all the time. Plus tons of classic cars like the '67 427 tripower Vette that I posted photos of, all driven by guys older than me. Oh yeah, a few C8's, very few. These guys enjoy going out for a local drive and enjoy their cars and like to show everyone what they have, never going much beyond the speed limit or .2g in a turn. And that is all there is to most owners, I guess it makes them happy just to own it. Hell, if they didn't buy the cars, it would just all go the wife and heirs!

To me it is stupid to spend that $ on a C8, but spending $ before you croak is smart.

BTW: I'm waiting for the first C8 to get anywhere near 200 at Land Speed Trials. I'll be there next week looking for one.
