Except in my case the river is much closer than any creeks.

I'm from all over, but that piece of my vernacular comes from Vermont.

But to be fair, there were both creeks and cricks, with creeks being larger than cricks, and both being smaller than streams, and certainly smaller than rivers.

That assessment held true here in WNY...we had a crick down the street...next neighborhood had a creek
