So spend the extra money for block with actual 4 bolt mains and the arp hardware should be fine?
Yes, 4 8740 studs per cap would have had 2x the clamping capacity and stronger webbing as well. Sometimes you learn the hard way, haven’t we all at some point?

Another interesting thing. HHP is saying ANY use of
Aftermarket main cap studs requires a line hone.

was that done on this engine that failed?

Yes, of course, line honing at minimum is required! When you change caps you most times have to line bore the holes first to get them close enough to be able to just line hone them and then line hone them to final size. The machine work to change caps most times exceeds the cost of the caps, they’re not a just bolt on and go item and just line honing isn’t possible most times.

The optitorque Patriot studs are not much stronger then standard ARP studs as their made from 8740 same as ARP Standard studs are. If you’re gonna go through the expense of adding Billet caps you need to add a better stud. I would not waste the money on billet caps and the cost of machining to install them unless I installed stronger studs as well.

H11 is what Tool Steel studs are like the G3 that have not been around anymore. The MMX offering is H11.

Remember, you most always get what you pay for. These H 11 studs are four times the cost of those studs that HHP advertising in that cap kit, I would not waste my money on putting those caps on with those 8740 studs they are including. Below is the head studs. They at one time offered Main studs as well, but I could not find them and at the moment don’t have time to look, but remember the phrase you get what you pay for.
