So today I decided to install my 3.09's which I bought used before I even owned a Hellcat because I thought I may want to try them. They only had 1500 miles on them. I picked up a used DSS aluminum driveshaft last summer and a few week ago bought some Gforce axles from the same guy I bought the rear from. Doing them all at once makes the most sense being they are all connected. You have to drop the exhaust for the driveshaft and rears and doing just the axles you have to disconnect the arms and brakes. The axles are only held on with one nut and come out the center so with no rear in place they come right out without taking the other stuff apart. Took the driveshaft off first then the rear and the axles. Reverse back together and also add the front brace. I started around 10 and Nick didn't make it over until 11:30 and we were done around 4. So 6 hours, probably 5 if he would have been there at 10
Driving it can't even tell there was a gear change. A lot of time you are driving at slow speeds you may only be in 4th gear where with the 3.09 you would be in 5th gear so it will be around the same rpm. The gears have a little noise which he told me about when I bought them. Every set of 3.09's in his different cars have made some noise. My Daytona was quiet so maybe some make noise. Nothing that bad. I also put the Nitto 555RII drag radials on the car. It has been cold so I have been driving with the stock rubber. I got after it pretty good and those tires hook and go. One thing I did notice about them last year and this year is they wander a little bit. I know I got used to them last year but I never noticed that with the 555R over the years on different cars
I have run in different DA last year so I can compare times with last year and see if the 3.09 are faster

How can you really compare to last year if there is different DA?

My Hellcat Charger had the 1st set of 309 gears installed back in 2015. This was my favorite mod and a surprise gift from my husband.
Absolutely my favorite mod. My car launched like a race car should!
Remember at the track Nittos love to be heated.
Big ole smokey burnouts! Lots of fun!

Linda :)

Nice! I was waiting to see your post on this. I must have missed it last night.
I’m curious what you see from the 3.09. The 2.62 is why I decided to not go with the 315 50 r17 because the tire would have been so much taller.
You had the exhaust off too why didn’t you do that while you were at it?

Could you post a picture of the part numbers on the axles you removed? You interested in selling them?

I like my car quiet. I have Hooker blackheart exhaust sitting in the basement that came off my Daytona. I would put the valves in if I were to put it back on. They don't come on it

@16GoManGoHC2 I saw you picked up some redeye axles. How come you don't buy some aftermarket ones?

I'm thinking aftermarket and you shouldn't have to worry about them breaking

Agreed, but he’ll never loose money should he decide to flip them.

I have DSS stage 5 1400 HP axles, my second set, 3rd rebuild, for me they don’t last. So I bought these RE ones for 3 reasons, I’ve heard their just as strong as the DSS ones, they where 1/3rd the cost, plus they’ll make good spares to try next time the DSS ones have to go back for new CV’s. If your spending big money on axles I’d try GForce Outlaws next, they make their CV’s out of their own design alloy, DSS uses off the shelf Porsche CV’s, their just not hard enough and develop ‘dents’ in them where the balls ride loaded up and start clicking and vibrating in no time for me at least. And I’m not lowered or nothing, just adjusted to 0 camber. Add to that DSS’s latest blue boots don’t last long either And they don’t warrantee boot failure even if they fail in the first month of operation, ask me how I know :(

I also picked up some used 1k RE / Demon axles, 1/2 price. Perfect for my hp level.
