I think it should be mandatory for drivers over 80 yrs old.

I don't understand why anyone would even want an autonomous car.

As a driving enthusiast, I just don't get it.

I want one and I am a driving enthusiast. It is hard to be enthusiastic when you are in stop and go traffic for two hours on the way to work. Instead of mind numbingly counting how many expansion joints are on the interstate between San Diego and LA I could be watching YouTube videos or reading a book. I could even do work stuff if I had to or just take a nap. At the end of the day I would arrive home much more rested instead of bleary eyed and take the Hellcat out for a little enthusiastic romping.

The system that is referenced gets pissed off and gives you all kinds of escalating alerts if you take your eyes off the road for a couple seconds. A trustworthy fully autonomous car would be great for boring commutes, but the one the @Prange linked doesn’t sound like that.

Our 2021 Jeep Cherokee has a "lanesense" feature that warns you as well as physically trying to steer you back in the lane. I was going through a construction zone with the lanes weaving back and forth. The damn lanesense kept fighting me, Pi$$ed me off. I disabled it and don't need or want all of these silly nannies.

Our DSRT has that, or some version of it anyway. When we first got the DSRT, I didn't enjoy driving it because that feature made the steering "heavy" and less than crisp.

I figured out that turning it off turned the DSRT into a dream to drive. I love the steering, at least as much as the Hellcat!

Long ago, maybe in the early 90s, my departed father (on buying his latest cadillac with some moronic system in it that has gone the way of the dodo bird) jokingly said, he wanted to just be able to get in the car and do nothing but steer. He was a car guy, of course, but he still wanted to be in over all control. Though I can see the draw on occasion. sleep on the way to work in the traffic jam. or whatever. but as for having no controls at all... I'm too old fashioned for that.

My version - all fun and games until the anxiety and hip replacements take over.

I would buy a hot plate and mini fridge, do some cooking and then when full jerk off, take a nap, watch some tv, and toss eggs at cars with biden bumper stickers.
