I lost a couple of great friends of mine to a drunk driver.

The drunk lost control, crossed the barrier on Hiway #400 and hit them head on.
Killed Rick, his wife, and 3 week new born instantly as they were going to meet for a family gathering. The drunk survived. On top of that, it was the drunks 3rd time caught driving drunk and most likely had driven drunk many other times.

So I have no respect for people who think that they can drive when intoxicated.

I think the laws should be that the first time you get arrested for a DUI, you should loose your drivers licence for no less then a year.
On a second DUI, it should be that you will never be able to aquire a drivers licence, purchase a vehicle or be able to acquire insurance for a motorized vehicle for the rest of their life.

And that goes for anything motorized, like Motorcycles, Snowmobiles, Boats, and Planes.
Then maybe people will get the point and we will have less people killed unnecessarily.

I hear you on distracted drivers and agree that that is another issue we really need to clamp down on.
That was another reason why I moved out into the boon docks and live on just over 10 acres.
Still have some distracted drivers out here, but way less then around cities.
Also much quieter out here.

I'm not against keeping irresponsible asshats from driving, but what about those stoned on a host of other chemicals - can it detect that? Oh and by the way, you are way more likely to get taken out by someone under the influence of their f'n "device" than any chemical - just my opinion - and "they" won't do shit about that. ALSO firmly against mandatory systems in ALL VEHICLES. that's bullshit. I said what I said and you won't EVER change my mind on this.

I'm not guilty. Never have been. What are you gonna do when this shit starts shutting people down falsely or for a host of other dumb shit? Because you KNOW it will. I already have to deal with in-car cams at work that don't know the difference between a phone and a water bottle FFS. I can't imagine Government Motors will do any better.

You wanna make a damn difference? Adopt Japan's DUI penalties. That'll never happen though. Because they DGAF about you or your safety. They make TOO. MUCH. MONEY. Off multiple DUI's. That's all it is. A money grab.

These days with the awareness of the issue, Lyt, Uber, DD's, majority of ppl dont drink and drive at unsafe levels. It's the a holes that have 3, 4 or more DUI's that are the ones killing ppl. Theyve already lost their license at that point probably, and might even have a court ordered interlock on their car. But they find a way to drink heavily and drive, and cause mayhem. But now the majority of the population will pay a price both in $$ and in potential inconvenience and life safety because of a few. What about when the mandated interlock malfunctions on a -40 North Dakota night in the middle of nowhere? Life safety issue. Or the car wont start because someone used a mouthwash with alcohol in it? Lots of potential consequences. Similar to gun control in my .02, the solution to a few rotten apples is to make laws that needlessly affect the entire population. Alcohol is the low hanging fruit, easy target. What about the a holes that are high on something else? How about the a holes that are facebooking and driving? At least someone whos had a glass of wine with dinner is watching the road. Every advance in technology has results in less freedom. "If it saves just one life" is the mantra. Life isnt risk free. And the old saying those who trade freedom security will have neither rings true.
