Tech says new Ford and GM trucks don’t have belt tensioners. They use a single use stretch belt which if you remove, they have to replaced. Requires special tools, a lot of time and cussing to install.

My 2011 GMC Sierra uses a stretch belt on the A/C compressor. They sent a cast aluminum install tool that you use to "roll on" the belt. Have not changed it yet but I bet it is not as easy as they say.

I guess they've been around for quite a while. I'd just never run across them.

Yep, stretch belts are garbage. Cost saving and pass the cost on to the consumer when it needs to be removed and replaced
