Depending on what he wants the Tremor for... the 7.3 gasser could certainly be the better choice.

Not everyone needs a mountain of torque. This truck isn't intended to tow SUPER HEAVY ... so having 1/2 of the torque (literally) is fine, the gearing helps. The Tremor is only rated to tow 15,000 lbs conventionally... so paying $9k for the 6.7 diesel is a hard pill to swallow when you're only towing what the V6 handles in the 1/2 ton market. If you're using a 5th wheel or gooseneck - good luck, the truck sits too high for your trailer ... regardless, the FORD pulls TWICE as much as the RAM and has 3X the PAYLOAD...

The overhead on a diesel is usually overlooked because of the power (and sometimes MPG) ... but the overhead is significant. Gassers have their place... and when you're looking for an offroad truck - gas is where it's at. The nose of the beast is over 500lbs lighter when you go with the 7.3 I think.

FWIW - I have a diesel and a heavy brick of a trailer I pull, and I would never seriously consider a gas motor for my application. If I was to take the Tremor seriously, I'd need to consider that it's too tall for most 5th wheel campers, and I'd be stuck with 15k towing regardless... and the 7.3 would be fine with that. I'd absolutely take a Tremor over a Power Wagon, $0.02.

But the Power Wagon is paid for and looks nicer...

I say do what makes you happy if you will use the truck more then the hellcat then its an easy choice ,you can always wait get another hellcat later for less then the one you have now

10-20k more is why lol. When I was towing a 24' loaded up trailer it was justified. Now not so much. Love the diesel but have no real need now. Not to mention once the warranty is out the repairs and maintenance are a lot higher.

Rumors are the new Ford 7.3 Motor and or the GT500 motor is going into the Raptor. And yes the TRX is going to be really nice as well. But can't go wrong at the end of the day of the current generation of trucks and with the price for these trucks all should be damn nice. The Truck wars are awesome and I am TRUCK JUNKIE to the max.

For me the diesel isn’t the right choice. My drive to work is less than 6 miles each way. That kind of commute would be terrible on a diesel.

I'm in the same boat as you but the half ton variety, 4 f150 platinums in 3 years. Make that 5 in 4 if the 2021 refresh is worth it.

Well because I was bored and the Ford Dealership is open on Sunday, I figured I’d go drive a 2020 Raptor with the EcoPoop V6. From the outside the truck is really good looking. Once inside the seats were comfortable, but I didn’t love how my left leg sat up against the drivers door arm rest. The truck had good power leaving the dealership, but once it downshifted on the two lane highway all I wanted to do was get out of the truck as fast as possible. That fake sound they pump through the speakers is absolutely terrible. I was so happy to get back to the dealership and back in my Power Wagon. How the hell are they selling these trucks for $70,000 plus ADM?

Does this truck even have air suspension? I guess that’s not a thing for off road trucks? My dad has the Laramie ram.. with the air suspension.. thing rides on the road like your cruising on fluffy pillows.

So here's some counterpoints....

you can turn off the piped in sound... bmw has been doing it for years (very annoying)

the "ecopoop" outworks the powerwagon in most every fashion aside from maybe towing (not a huge towing guy) the tuning potential on the "ecopoop" is insane, I wouldn't be surprised if you could get 600 horsepower from maybe a tune and bigger fuel injectors.

The raptor is a purpose built off road machine, simply put it doesn't belong on pavement(not to say it can't drive on the roads but it's specifically meant to handle rough terrain and jumps), it's the best in the business and baddest stock truck when off-road.

That being said a normal half-ton is enough for me, the f150 platinum outshines the ram limited since 2015, the 2019 refreshed ram got close and edges the f150 in certain areas but with the 2021 refresh impending looks like gm and ram are behind in the market again... we will see how ram does but with an all new truck likely coming in 2026/2027 if ram and gm don't start throwing refreshes and updates consistently they will behind ford once again like what happened for my 2015-2018 (ram and gm were in the stone ages).

Finally for me at least a dd truck is supposed to do truck stuff and not necessarily sound like a hellcat( it would be nice but wouldn't bother me if it didn't) , the turbo 6s are only getting more powerful and fuel efficient while the 8 cylinders are being phased out, very soon you will see ram abandon the 8 cylinder as will gm in favor of either smaller turbo 8s (how amg went from big v8s to small twin turbo v8s) or you will see the switch to 6 cylinder turbos (like M has been doing on the m3s)

air suspension in the market doesn't seem ready to handle some of the stuff the raptor can do. Also for longevity air suspension = 💩. Not particularly happy with the problem mercedes early air suspension caused, it's a big issue waiting to happen. You couldn't pay me enough to buy a ram with air suspension and drive it for 100k+ miles, coincidentally why I am a bigger fan of leasing is because of some of these out of warranty issues on expensive vehicles.

Yes you need to clone yourself a few times over to actually put all these vehicles to work hehe.
