TPMS Life?

I ordered some TPMS and the date on them is 7/22 so they are 3.5y old. Net says they last 5-12y, 7y ave. Seller says life begins at use. Is that true? Or can I expect these to fail in 2-4y. I do about 3kmi/yr so it would be an expensive PITA to replace them.

Most tpms do not work until it has centrifugal force to “turn” them on, normally 19mph of force. Thats why lifespan is so broad. I have replaced them after going bad after 15 years (wheel and tire tech for many years)

Unanswered question is: What is the shelf life? Never found an answer.

It is likely they draw tiny power looking/waiting for motion/acceleration. It is possible they may be completely "off" but that would require a mechanical switch/accelerometer, which I would imaging is unlikely.

I'm very ok spending an extra $15 each for fresh units. If it were my truck, I might feel differently!
