Notice the line for “owners with eligible connected vehicles”. State Farm not only wants to know how much you’re driving but how. Not sure how much different this is than some of the other insurance agencies that give discounts for putting a black box in your car to monitor your driving habits but they can stick their discount and go pound sand.

Exactly. They sell it as a way to get a discount but they fail to mention the upcharges for speeding, hard braking, etc. Why would any sane person voluntarily submit to this nonsense.

Also, there should be a rule that prevents members from staring a new thread with only a link. If the OP doesn't have have any comments on the subject then why would anyone else?

This doesn't count as community service time.

Think of the data mine would upload from the tracks! They would absolutely freak out at what we do.

I could be playing with fire and just getting lucky at this point, but I've had a beacon in my cars for years, been on the drag strip with them, weekend fun runs, everything. Never affected my rate, never even received a call about my driving or anything and you can ask @Jimmy N. - I don't exactly drive slow. Right now I even get a little extra discount for having it! ;)

At about $50 per month for insurance, I have no incentive whatsoever to have them monitor my driving habits.

And like 16GoManGo, if they knew...I'd be looking for insurance elsewhere. Which could be tricky if other companies find out why I ended up cancelled.

The insurance companies may be looking at the surge of "subscription-based" schemes from the car manufacturers and want to get into that sphere. You can just bundle it into the payment at a discount, just like the cable companies.
