That sender didn’t break itself, whoever (your mechanic maybe?) was in there last most likely broke it trying to get it out. You have to take the float off of the orange plastic holder before trying to get it out of the bung hole, it’s easy to do but you have to know how to unsnap it before you snap it (break it). I don’t know if you can buy the sending unit parts alone without buying the whole unit, and a whole new unit isn’t cheap and most used units do not come with the sender parts as they get transferred over to aftermarket stuff. That could be a very expensive F up.

@16GoManGoHC2 can I take you up on your offer?

mechanic got the tank out, found out that the secondary sending unit was broken. Not even the whole unit either. Just the orange bracket and the fuel level arm. View attachment 181304
sorry, just seeing this. Do you still need a part of some kind?

No worries, man.

I see some folks ask questions on forums and the response is often “take it to the shop”. So I figured I’d take a shortcut and do that first. The thing I learned most from this was to not assume that they really knew the true issue. To be fair, they don’t get paid for a time consuming diagnosis until it’s part of the estimate. So, he said get a drivers side pump and I tried that. I should have waited until he got the tank open. I won’t make that mistake again.

however, the fuel gauge issue was existing. As soon as I ran over the diffuser in the road, the fuel gauge quit and would only blink.

For clarity, the two root issues are/were - punctured fuel tank(now replaced) and the fuel gauge reading empty. They rigged it up - it tells me the fuel level fairly accurately, but if I accelerate hard, it’s starts to blink again but still shows the fuel level.

I don’t really want to leave it like that. I’d rather get the right parts, and fix it the right way.

@16GoManGoHC2 - can I direct message you about parts?

Probably find a new mechanic before they break something else.

And if they can't identify fuel pumps you should really run as fast as you can.
