Put in my 4” aluminum DSS. Install went great, had a buddy help and plenty of room for the Barton. Had it up to 95 so far with no noise or vibration.

Now came the aggravating part. The website for the track I want to go says you need a ds safety loop for cars running slicks or street slicks. So I put on this g force one for a manual and it does not fit. It rubs the Barton even with adjustment.

The only way I could get it to fit was with 10mm ss spacer I cut that angled it down and away from the Barton and ds. After everything, I wasn’t happy and just took the loop off all together.

I don’t hear many talking about these things and wondering if others are using them? Are they really required? Honestly I really don’t want to put this on my car. If I have to, I could take it to a machine shop or have them make one from scratch that actually fits.

There has long been an item of general knowledge that the M6 and use of Barton shifters do interfere with the aftermarket driveshafts. If you worked on it and got it to work, why would that still bother you enough to remove it?

I have the BMR part and realized after the purchase that it does NOT fit the 4 inch DSS ds. I saw another owner used spacers to fit on but mine is A8, so a lot less potential for interference. BMW was supposedly making a loop setup for A8 that fits the larger diameter DS......time will tell as it has already been a year and a half.

I intend to modify mine to fit no matter what it takes, regardless of the fact that when I did break my ds 2 years ago on launch, it was just before the carrier bearing and in no way could have come out since the exhaust is in the way.

I didn't remove the driveshaft, just the loop. The DSS fit great with the barton. I removed the loop after I added the spacer because I didn't feel comfortable with the top bracket that close to the shifter and shaft at high speed. That's why if I have to have one (which I hope I don't) I'll need to get it machined some to fit. So I'm assuming these are required, at least at your track?

If you took some pictures of it on the car…. Just keep those on the phone and show them to tech when they ask. There’s no way to see up under there and they’ll take your word for it. The DS ain’t going to hit the track (that’s what they care about) with the exhaust on these cars.

Last time I went to the track they almost wouldn’t let me run because I didn’t have have a ds loop. As much as I hate it, I want to be legal so used a u bolt for 4” pipe, 5/8 thick, and it fits nicely with Barton and dss.

@ACMAVRO WTG! building the better mouse trap!

If everything works well at the track, you may want to think about getting involved with a manufacturer to sell your idea to.!

Linda :)

I was hoping it would. I have that same GForce DS hoop, it weighs a ton and why I haven’t put it on. I had that same Wiles DS too.

Remember how tight it was up there just trying to fit the Barton on top of the Wiles? I remember you helped me through the minor clearance issues we had to resolve.

Here is how 4” fits. Not sure the clearance with wiles, looks like It’d be tight but might work. 9267C6D1-3474-4B49-A453-8DDCEE79968E.jpeg

All I know is these are a PITA for manual with a Barton😂

Only thing I can suggest is…. Don’t be afraid to grind on stuff. If something is touching…. reshape it. I can’t tell you how much stuff in my car has had a meeting with a grinder. That included the big fat/heavy drive shaft loop long ago.

Agreed, had to grind the bottom of the Barton as I didnt want to take any material off of the ds which was contacting the shifter right on the weld. Removed just a few mils, no prob.

What size pipe is it for? McMaster probably has a SS one too, I’ll have to look

It’s zinc for 4in id pipe. I looked briefly at McMaster and I think the thickest they went for 4” ID was 1/2”. If you pm me your address I send you one of these to try. The 1/2 may suit you better since I believe your space is smaller but happy to send you one of these if you want
