How did it go? I have to re Dyno with my ported snout and 105 mm t body. It will probably do 980 . But it would be cool to get 1k. You should get about 1075 to 1125.

Ok I just got home from the 4 hour drive.
So on the idle tensioner pulley the bolt that pretty much holds it in place was the wrong bolt size so that caused the belt & pulley at high rpms to wiggle and move abit on the SC pulley. The belt started to tear on the sides and come apart. Tommy found that problem right away so new bolt and new belt is on the way.
At 24psi and 13 degrees of timing we made 968rwhp and 958 torque with very little timing. Tim and Tommy we’re just getting started with their secret sauce.
With the ice box iat’s we’re at 106 and cooling temp was at 58 degrees. I’m thinking at 18-20 degrees of timing we will see 1050rwhp plus. Man that ice box makes a huge difference. After each pull I could literally put my hand on the Magnuson and it never got hot. Maybe Friday this week back on the dyno or next week. The highest rpm level we took it to on the dyno was at 6100rpm. A lot more room to make power. If you look close on the SC pulley belt moved over 1 rib and idle tensioner moved a bit to as well.
On the positive note no belt slippage this time. EEA79D2B-EB6B-4152-B809-A179CE6B35BE.jpeg

Nice numbers so far . There is always teething issues with custom installs like this but you are narrowing them down. On a side note I use 13 degrees of timing for my 93-94 pump gas tune you got a lot left in it if using E85 or race gas.

I'm sure you're frustrated but better to work out the issues now than when you're flying down the drag strip at 140mph.

Yes agreed. I’m not frustrated at all. Maybe alittle bit but Tommy and Theo have a gift on stuff like this.
It’s good to know my car is in a great shop.
3rd time is a charm!👍

So I talked to a pretty knowledgeable forum member in here on my way home today. We talked about timing a bit. So when you increase timing 1 degree you gain 10rwhp. Does that number apply to all builds and fuel being used? Or does that number change on applications and different race fuels?

I was told a little more than that on a hellcat. You should be able to get 21-22 degrees on e85. My car did not go any faster on 23/24 degrees. 22 seemed like the sweet spot.

Yup that’s next is finding the sweet spot with timing. 👍

Thats about right from what I've heard and read too.

After a long all night race to get home instead of chilling at the shop for another day.... I can comment on all of this. I’m playing around at the shop thinking about having a Corona (beer) and I get a call from my wife telling me that she just found out that Utah is restricting border crossings on Friday. I’ve got a 8 hour drive home and if I don’t want to spend the next week living in a motel in Phoenix, I’d better get my ass moving! Strange times we’re in! Anyway.... disappointed to not get the results with Primetime we were hoping for. That brings up the subject that I’ve experienced over and over. You try to get the info you need from the manufacture of whatever you’re buying and there’s nobody to talk to that knows shit. The first thing that popped into my head when I saw the Maggie on James motor was “Is that belt on the right side of the tensioner?” Of coarse it was..... but the angles that the belt runs is just not putting a lot of wrap on the pulley. Not a problem I guess...... until to put 25 lbs boost to it! Tommy already recognized that the stock tensioner wasn’t going to cut it, so that had been swapped out with one of the heavy spring billet pieces. That belt was tight! Not enough 😳. It smoked that thing like a big fat stogie. So now it’s getting a Griptech and a idler pulley added to the need to have stuff to make it work. That’s all news to Magnuson. Anyway..... next week!!!! Unfortunately I wont be there so I’ll be waiting on the results with everybody else. One thing I can say is.... man that thing is beautiful and sings like a bird! Magnuson is the deal. Always liked their kits and their service (and attitude). That is just ridiculous looking in that engine bay, LOL. Awesome.

Patience.... it's going to be way worth the wait. Good to hear about the ice box performance.

If you pick up 10hp with 1* timing on a stock 'Cat, I'm betting it's a bit more on one making a lot more power... So you'll be making ~15-18hp per *, until you don't.

Talked to SRT AutoWorks today and the next dyno session will be next Friday at 9am. Gonna be about 75-80 degrees or so. I’m not worried to much about it with the ice box.

10-11 rwhp is the accepted number for each degree of timing on a Hellcat. Yours is a custom setup and depending on a lot of variables like compression ratio, boost, fuel, etc that would likely move around a bit but it's still a good rule of thumb I think.

As boost goes up timing usually has to come down though so running 20+ degrees of timing it might be a challenge to also run 20+ pounds of boost, but perhaps on really good fuel.

You know I've been playing with pump E85 and what I've found so far is I can run a few more degrees than pump 93 I had been using, but even at 17 lbs of boost I can't run the 20 degrees of timing I hear other people putting to their cars. Makes me wonder how desensitized the knock sensors are on those. My knock sensors were tuned by me and are just barely adjusted from stock and I used race gas to dial them in.

Primetime has close to the same BBP 426 as me. With aggressive Ice Box cooling on mine, Tim went as high as 18 degrees with 26 lbs on e85 and we made 1100whp. Second round.... with a plenum spacer mod to my Whipple, we saw a decrease of 3 lbs of boost and cooler IAT. On e90 (Ignite) he took it to 23 degrees at 23 lbs and gained 100whp. James has the Ice Box for the dyno and the track and that Magnuson runs so cool it never gets beyond warm to the touch after a pull. He’s not tuning for beyond the pump e85 level for street use though so I doubt he’s going to get more than 17 to 18 degrees. I’ll bet he’s going to be close to that 1100whp. Looking forward to next Friday. Phoenix is starting to heat up so I hope he gets this thing done this time!
