How much to clean them? I have never sent a set out to get cleaned. My friend Tim sent his out running 8's on e85 this year and before and after flow was basically the same

View attachment 62361
I sent my ID 1050X’s to ID for cleaning, about 9,000 miles on 93, 4000 on corn, as sent basically same as returned. Interesting thing was for 1050’s they flowed almost 1100 cc’s, no wonder they keep up with E85 and 18 psi of boost. 6BAA33E3-8B91-4949-9EA6-BD7E054D2F86.jpeg B2D65CCC-0AEA-4B13-A7D2-41D9E17DC4DF.jpeg 2D67E8F7-1A50-4B66-8A16-4AFF522D7A59.jpeg

Well some good news and bad news. 7 of the cylinders tested at 2 or 3 percent on the leak down test.
Cylinder 4 on the other hand well. Not so much.
the first test I did showed 12 percent. Which isn’t horrible. But I wasn’t 100 percent sure I was tdc so I went to test again and we’ll I heard a noise and the engine filled up with air and came out like crazy from the oil fill. Ever since the. I did 6 more tests on the cylinder and it was down 25 percent each test. So I guess today I’m going to put it back together let it run for 10 or 15 minutes giver her some revs and test again.

I tried a few different ways of finding top dead center. I did end up like using a compression tester the best to find it. Once the compression tester had compression (only a few pounds) from turning the engine I knew I was at tdc.

Still goes back to when this happened. You can still make lots of power with a cylinder down and you could have been running like that all summer

I’ve put lots of thought this morning in the timeline of things. I have debated about posting about it. But I’m not sure I want to start an online battle.
I’ll say. During my tuning tuning process there was some street driving. Both on 93 and e85. I drove from my house to gun lake to Kalamazoo and back home. So a good amount of miles. Everything felt fine. I then went to the drag strip Friday night that same week ran a 9.90. As you know I had a control arm issue because the alignment shop forgot to tighten a few bolts up. I think I then had the car parked for a good week or so. It’s not my daily and I beleive it rained. Well when I get it back out the car felt like it was breaking up and died a few times backing out of the garage. Also almost died going through the drive through. I keep having to give it gas. I told all this to the tuner and it was a month before I got any attention. I saw knock in a lot of my logs. I told them and was told it was normal because sensors weren’t desensitized. But it would be 8deg through a whole pull. And well after another few weeks I ended up getting a partial refund. I then started on my own tune. I was chasing in consistent knock issues the rear of the year. But the car was still running super strong. I’m not going back to that tuner or anyone and blaming them. Well because I guess I should have checked plugs back in July.

I was able to fix most the issues. Knock was down a lot on my tune only a few degrees here and there. And the dying issues were fixed. I think that came down to injector data and open and closed loop. But I guess I should have checked plugs when I kept seeing knock here and there. I guess now I know better.

Checking plugs isn't normally a thought so easy to miss. In the 90's when I had my 1st supercharged mustang a blew lots of head gaskets but never destroyed in spark plugs. Tried different coils and ignition systems but nothing made the car pull better on the top end. I found out later it had to do with plug gap. There was really no internet then and all the info was found in magazines. Stock 5.0 gap then was over .050. The mags said to bring gap to .035 with a blower. After running that blower and finally taking out a piston I ran N/A for a year. I went to a Vortech the next year and was having the same issue where the car would not pull very good above 5200. I had bought my blower from Anderson Ford and they had a tech line. Talking to Rick he said "how wide is your spark plug gap" I said .035 he says "close it to .028" I did and the car pulled strong to 6000. I wish I would have known that years earlier

I ordered plugs for Jon and I this week NGK 2309. Rock auto has them for just over $100 shipped
That's crazy how the plugs look, besides cost why not go back with stock ones ?

I'm a fan of NGK and going one step colder with more boost then stock isn't a bad idea.

I have never checked my plugs yet, 10,500 miles, maybe I should ?
I wonder at what point is it good to go with colder plugs ?...I'm at 15 > 16 lbs. on the 2.85 & my tuner said when I need to change to go with stock.

I'm thinking setting gap at .028, does that sound ok ?

I guess I wasn't clear.

Do you have a cylinder at ~25% leakage??

Man, I'm off my game, went back and read the post before.

I think you need to ensure you're at TDC or you'll have bad results.

I have read that you're supposed to rock the crank back and forth to seat the rings as well.

That’s why I’m going to start it to try and set everything. Like I said there’s still a chance.
the pics above was once cylinder off 25 psi. It was cylinder 4 that had the broken plugs. The rest were all about perfect and that was the second pic.
